From A Previous Employee

A HUGE memory that I'd like to someday be able to forget was breaking the famous Ferris Wheel.  In the summer (67) when I worked there, a girl friend of mine did too.  After the park closed, all the employees would ride the rides for free.

After the park closed one night towards the end of the summer, she and I were the only ones on the Ferris Wheel, and another employee (guy) ran it for us.  He was wanting to date one of us and we were saying "never."  He walked off and left us riding it, like he was leaving.  We watched him walk clear out to the north parking lot to his car.

Not knowing he was teasing, and with most of the other employees gone and Mr. Woods in his office (unaware of us and what was happening) my friend opened the door to the cage to scare the guy in the parking lot when he looked back at us. (she said she was going to try to scare him)  One of the supporting 'spokes' hit our cage door and as the metal beam was lowering, it began to turn our cage upside down!  It broke off the door, light bulbs broke in large quantities, and the ferris wheel came to a loud metalic-sounding stop, jamming it.  The security guard came when he heard our screams and we ended up having to crawl down, with him shouting where to put our feet next. (which was horrifying)  Needless to say the three of us were justly fired.
