From an Employee
My brother was running the Roller Coaster at the time and I happened to be swimming at the pool. The loudspeaker came on and called me to the front desk. My brother was standing there and asked if I wanted to go to work. I said "when", he said "right now". An hour later I was running the turtle ride right in front of Mr. Woods office. My brother later told me I was the youngest ride operator they had ever hired and Mr. Woods put me there to keep an eye on me. Later, I ran the Jets, the bumper cars, and even got to do a stint with the man that ran the old Merry Go Round ( a big honor). The Merry Go Round operator and I watched the first landing on the Moon together on a little tiny TV he had plugged in at his booth. It was a surrealistic moment I will never forget.
The nice part of being 15 and working as an operator at Wedgwood was that it was the most prestigious job in town for a teenager, and every 15 year old girl for miles around was there every night. Paradise!
To this day I tell people it was the best job I ever had.
